Over the last few years, 3D printing has become a growing trend in the technological field, with different types of 3D printers available for anyone who wants to buy them.
The Innovation, Projects and Information Society Service of the Island Council of La Palma has acquired a Makerbot Replicator 2 3D printer that will be temporarily loaned (15 consecutive calendar days per school year) to schools on the island of La Palma with the aim of promoting this innovative printing technique and related technologies among students and young people on the island.
At the same time, we organize training events that allow us to learn more about these technologies.
The short-term approach is to bring this technology closer to the society of La Palma, and to provide the necessary means to create a “Digital Manufacturing Laboratory” where to experiment with different processes and digital manufacturing tools, through training courses, collaborative prototyping workshops, the use of machines to support the different projects and lines of work and research.
In short, it is intended to continue with “the spirit” of the First Lego League launched by the training centers of the island, to progressively give it a more professional orientation in its relationship with computer programming (Arduino) and possible solutions to specific problems.
